Good Solid Aluminum Boats
The history of aluminum boats is rather fascinating. Initially, aluminum boats were built because they made such great work boats. It is fascinating to learn more about the history of aluminum boats. Aluminum boats quickly gained popularity because they were so functional and useful.
Did you know that aluminum boats were initially made for work boats to replace other types of boats? The aluminum is light-weight material. This meant working men could easily maneuver and handle the boats while doing jobs such as fishing. Heavy boats would tire out workers when pulling into shore and casting off.
Another great quality that made aluminum boats popular was the ability to clean them. Prior to the use of aluminum boats, most were made out of wood. Wood is very difficult to clean and even harder to sanitize.
So, you can imagine then how using aluminum boats became very popular and rather quickly!

Types of Aluminum Boats
Aluminum boats have been the fisherman's mainstay for decades. Improvements in construction have led to lighter boats with less of a propensity to leaking through rivet holes.
V bottom boats are one popular type of aluminum boat. Most are designed for fishing or hunting and cutting through water efficiently. Some V bottoms are big enough to be classified as cabin cruisers and are capable of handling high horsepower motors.
Flat bottom boats offer the stability of a flat surface and can move through very shallow water. They're certainly not for the faint of heart on big waters, but for shallow lakes and river backwaters, these boats are ideal.
Aluminum canoes have been used recreationally for a long time. They're excellent for just about every kind of lake and river. They're durable, can take being banged around, and provide relative comfort and leg room when traveling downstream around logs and rocks.

Why Aluminum Boats?
Many people remember that when they were kids going to summer camp, they were given aluminum canoes to row around the camp's lake.
Aluminum makes a great material for boat building since it is light and strong yet does not rust and can take a lot of abuse and neglect. This is why, even though fiberglass boats are very popular, many manufacturers still make boats out of aluminum.
Aluminum boats tend to be more expensive than fiberglass boats, but they are much more durable. They are great for boating in shallow water or rocky areas where groundings and collisions are common.
Damage to aluminum boats can easily be fixed by flattening dents with a hammer, and the ability of the metal to give instead of break prevents common damages from occuring.
This is why many manufacturers still make aluminum boats, and used aluminum boats are still quite highly valued by boat owners.

Advantages of Aluminum Boats
From fishing boats to government vessels, lightweight aluminum is a durable, resilient building material that offers fuel efficiency, rust and puncture resistance, and flexibility of design.
Aluminum boats are generally easier to repair than boats made of other materials, such as fiberglass, and allow boat owners to save time and money on repairs, while enjoying the satisfaction of fixing their own boat in many cases. Dents can simply be pounded out with a hammer, and even more serious damage can be easily repaired by replacing the aluminum in that area.
Considering that fiberglass is most often full of petroleum-based chemicals, and the superior fuel efficiency provided by aluminum’s light weight, aluminum boats also offer an eco-friendlier option for boaters who are concerned about their environmental impact.
Aluminum boats offer durability and longevity, and are easy to repair or customize. They also offer resistance to corrosion, lightweight portability and generous flexibility in hull design options.
