Why Aluminum Boats?

Many people remember that when they were kids going to summer camp, they were given aluminum canoes to row around the camp's lake.

Aluminum makes a great material for boat building since it is light and strong yet does not rust and can take a lot of abuse and neglect. This is why, even though fiberglass boats are very popular, many manufacturers still make boats out of aluminum.

Aluminum boats tend to be more expensive than fiberglass boats, but they are much more durable. They are great for boating in shallow water or rocky areas where groundings and collisions are common.

Damage to aluminum boats can easily be fixed by flattening dents with a hammer, and the ability of the metal to give instead of break prevents common damages from occuring.

This is why many manufacturers still make aluminum boats, and used aluminum boats are still quite highly valued by boat owners.
